With this lecture and showing of the classic Irish film, “The Quiet Man,” you will be brought back to 1951 Ireland by the family who was part of the movie’s production. 

Anne O’Maille, co-owner of O’Maille’s shop in Galway, will lead the lecture by telling interesting and funny stories from the exciting time when John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara filmed “The Quiet Man” nearby at the beautiful Ashford Castle in Co. Mayo.

 Many of the film’s beautifully tailored costumes were made by the O’Maille family in their shop and both John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara visited the O’Maille shop personally. Anne will discuss these exciting family connections to the film as well as show replicas of costumes that were made for the film. Anne will also show Galway shalls that were worn in the film and discuss details of how the costumes were constructed.

“The Quiet Man” is a classic film that showcases the beautiful landscape of Ireland and through this lecture, you’ll be able to get a backstage pass to all of the exciting stories that only the O’Maille family can provide!
